Microsoft SharePoint Integration

Connect SharePoint and OneDrive so Assistant can search your firm's files and import the ones you need into August for analysis with Assistant and Tabular Review. August searches SharePoint live each time you ask; files reach August only when you import them.

What This Integration Does

Once connected, SharePoint + OneDrive works as a document source for August:

• Search SharePoint and OneDrive: Query your SharePoint sites and OneDrive folders from within August chat to find relevant documents.

• Import documents: Bring SharePoint files into your August folders for AI analysis, clause extraction, and review workflows.

• Read SharePoint lists: Ask Assistant to read the rows and columns of a SharePoint list, including your personal lists.

• Maintain existing workflows: Keep SharePoint as your primary repository. August has read-only access and cannot modify or delete SharePoint content.

Setup Requirements

Before connecting SharePoint, confirm you have:

• SharePoint Online: Your organization must use Microsoft 365 SharePoint Online.

• Microsoft 365 account: You sign in with your own organizational Microsoft account. August sees only the sites and files that account can access.

• Tenant consent, if required: If your Microsoft 365 tenant restricts user consent for third-party apps, your Microsoft administrator approves August once before you can connect.

How to Connect SharePoint

August never receives your Microsoft password.

1. Open the account menu (your name in the sidebar) and select My profile.

2. Select the Integrations tab and click Connect next to SharePoint + OneDrive.

3. Sign in with your organizational Microsoft 365 account.

4. Approve the requested permissions (read files and read sites).

You return to August with your account listed under SharePoint + OneDrive. You can also connect from the Integrations menu in the chat composer, or from Import > SharePoint + OneDrive on a project's folders page.

Using SharePoint with Assistant

Turn on SharePoint + OneDrive in the chat composer's Integrations menu, then ask for the documents you need:

1. In the Assistant, ask a question that requires SharePoint documents.

2. August searches your SharePoint sites and OneDrive for matching files.

3. Results appear in a SharePoint + OneDrive Search Results card.

4. Click Import All to bring the documents into an August folder for analysis.

Importing Documents

When you import SharePoint documents:

• Choose an existing folder or create a new one as the destination.

• Imported files go through August's standard processing and become available for analysis when it finishes.

• Files larger than 50 MB cannot be imported through the integration.

To import without a chat, open a project's folders page and choose Import > SharePoint + OneDrive.

Folder-Scoped Search and Import

When working in a chat, you can narrow SharePoint and OneDrive searches to specific folders. This is useful when you know relevant documents are located in a particular matter folder or team site.

How Folder Scoping Works

When you select folders in the chat file picker:

• Automatic scope restriction: Searches automatically limit to the selected SharePoint and OneDrive folders.

• Per-chat setting: Folder scope is stored per chat. Each conversation can have its own set of selected folders.

• Recursive search: Searching a folder also searches all subfolders nested beneath it. You do not need to select every subfolder individually.

Without folder scoping, searches run across all SharePoint sites and OneDrive folders you have access to.

Selecting Folders for Scoped Search

1. From within a chat, open the SharePoint + OneDrive file picker to browse available sites and folders.

2. Choose the folders you want to search. You can select multiple folders from different SharePoint sites and OneDrive locations.

3. Run your search. Results include files from the selected folders and their subfolders.

Importing from Scoped Folders

Click Import All in the search results card to bring the documents from the search into an August folder. Individual files larger than 50 MB cannot be imported through the SharePoint integration; download them from SharePoint and upload them to August instead.

Using SharePoint with Tabular Review

Import documents from SharePoint first, then review them in Tabular Review:

• Matter-level analysis: Import a matter folder's documents to perform bulk extraction across them.

• Due diligence: Import NDAs, MSAs, and purchase agreements from SharePoint for structured comparison and term extraction.

• Portfolio reviews: Import a document set to compare lease terms, liability caps, or renewal dates.

Imported copies don't update when the SharePoint originals change. Import the files again to pick up a newer version.

Authentication and Security

SharePoint integration follows enterprise security standards:

• Microsoft sign-in: You authenticate on Microsoft's own sign-in page.

• Microsoft Graph API: Document search and access use Microsoft Graph API with your authorized token.

• No password storage: August never stores your Microsoft credentials. Authentication tokens are encrypted and managed securely.

• Scoped access: August requests only the permissions needed (reading files and site information). It cannot modify or delete SharePoint content.
