Microsoft SharePoint Integration

SharePoint integration connects your firm's central document repository to August, enabling you to search, access, and import documents directly into your workspace for analysis with Assistant and Tabular Review.

What This Integration Does

SharePoint acts as both a document source and a DMS connector:

  • Search SharePoint and OneDrive: Query your SharePoint sites and OneDrive folders from within August chat to find relevant documents.

  • Import documents: Bring SharePoint files into your August workspace folders for AI analysis, clause extraction, and review workflows.

  • Document source for Tabular Review: Sync matter folders to support bulk document analysis with citations.

  • Maintain existing workflows: Continue using SharePoint as your primary DMS while leveraging August for intelligent document processing.

Setup Requirements

On-premises SharePoint is not supported. This integration requires SharePoint Online (Microsoft 365 cloud). On-premises SharePoint deployments cannot connect to August.

Before connecting SharePoint, confirm you have:

  • SharePoint Online: Your organization must use Microsoft 365 SharePoint Online. On-premises deployments are not supported.

  • Site-level admin consent: A SharePoint site administrator must grant consent for August to access the site. This is the minimum required permission level.

  • Microsoft 365 account: You authenticate using your organizational Microsoft account credentials.

How to Connect SharePoint

The integration uses OAuth 2.0 authentication through Azure AD and Microsoft Graph API. August never stores your Microsoft passwords.

1

Open Integrations

Open Integrations from the left navigation menu and select Microsoft SharePoint.

2

Authorize Your Microsoft Account

Click to connect. This redirects you to Microsoft's secure login page. Sign in with your organizational Microsoft 365 account.

3

Grant Permissions

Microsoft prompts you to authorize August's access. The requested permissions include reading files and site information. Approve the consent prompt to complete the connection.

4

Connection Confirmed

After authorization, you return to August with SharePoint connected. You can now search and import documents from your SharePoint sites and OneDrive.

Using SharePoint with Assistant

Once connected, you can search SharePoint from within August chat:

  1. In the Assistant, ask a question that requires SharePoint documents.

  2. August searches your connected SharePoint sites and OneDrive for matching files.

  3. Results appear in a SharePoint Search Results card showing document names and summaries.

  4. Click Import All to bring documents into your workspace folder for analysis.

Importing Documents

When you import SharePoint documents:

  • Choose an existing workspace folder or create a new one as the destination.

  • Imported files appear in your workspace and are immediately available for analysis.

  • Files larger than 50 MB cannot be imported through the integration.

Using SharePoint with Tabular Review

SharePoint is particularly valuable for Tabular Review workflows:

  • Matter-level analysis: Connect matter folders from SharePoint to perform bulk extraction across related documents.

  • Due diligence: Import NDAs, MSAs, and purchase agreements from SharePoint for structured comparison and term extraction.

  • Portfolio reviews: Sync document sets from SharePoint to compare lease terms, liability caps, or renewal dates.

Authentication and Security

SharePoint integration follows enterprise security standards:

  • OAuth 2.0: Authentication uses Microsoft's OAuth 2.0 implementation via Azure AD.

  • Microsoft Graph API: Document search and access use Microsoft Graph API with your authorized token.

  • No password storage: August never stores your Microsoft credentials. Authentication tokens are encrypted and managed securely.

  • Scoped access: August requests only the permissions needed — reading files and site information. It cannot modify or delete SharePoint content.

For details on how August protects your data across all integrations, see Security and Privacy Overview.

Troubleshooting

SharePoint is not available for your organization

Your organization's administrator has disabled SharePoint integration. Contact your IT administrator to request access.

SharePoint is not connected. Please connect your Microsoft account first

Your Microsoft authentication has expired or was revoked. Reconnect your account through the Integrations menu to restore access.

SharePoint search failed

This typically indicates a temporary issue with Microsoft Graph API or an expired authentication token. Try again, or reconnect your Microsoft account if the error persists.

File exceeds 50 MB size limit

The SharePoint integration cannot import files larger than 50 MB. Download the file directly from SharePoint and upload it to August through the standard document upload flow.
