Browser Sites and Saved Logins
Browser sites are websites you let the assistant open in a secure remote browser — including sites that sit behind your own login. If you asked August to use a browser, browse a website for you, or log in to a website for you and it replied that the site isn't registered or saved here, adding the site in Settings is the fix.
Also called: browser use, browser agent, browser automation, web browsing agent, saved browser site, registered source, browser credentials, or storing your password for a site.
What browser sites are
A browser site is a per-user list entry that tells the assistant it may open that website in a secure remote browser. It's separate from web search and from plain URL fetching — browser sites exist for sites whose search forms or logins need a real browser session.
Saved sites belong to you, not your whole organization. Each person adds their own sites in their own Settings.
Why the assistant sometimes says it can't
August only drives a site that is either a registered public source or one of your saved browser sites. If a site is neither, the assistant declines to open its login page or enter credentials — which is why you may see a message that the site isn't currently registered or saved here. Adding the site in Settings resolves this.
Add a site
You can add a site and, in the same step, save the login it needs. Open your profile or Settings dialog, then select Browser sites from the left navigation (the globe icon, after Emails).
On the Browser sites page, click Add site.
Enter a Name for the site.
Enter the site's URL. It must be plain HTTPS.
If the site needs your account, expand Login (optional) and enter Username or email and Password. The password is stored encrypted and never shown to the assistant.
Click Add site.
The page subheading explains the feature: sites the assistant may browse for you in a secure remote browser — including ones behind your own login. When the list is empty, it shows "No saved sites yet. Add one to let the assistant browse it for you."
Add or change a login later
If you saved a site without a login, or the credentials changed, update them from the site's row without re-adding the site.
No login yet: click Add login on the row, enter the username or email and password, then click Save login.
Login already saved: click Update login on the row, update the fields, then click Save login.
Remove a login: open the overflow (…) menu on the row and choose Remove login.
The login dialog is titled "Add login for <site name>" or "Update login for <site name>". The password field has a show/hide eye toggle.
Security and credential handling
Saved passwords are encrypted before they are stored and are never shown or returned to the assistant. The password is only typed into that site's own sign-in form inside the remote browser session, on your behalf.
The browsing session is scoped to the site's own domain, taken from the URL you saved.
Removing the login or the site destroys the stored credential and the authenticated remote browser profile.
Adding, updating, and removing saved sites and logins are recorded in the audit log.
Requirements and limits
The URL must be plain HTTPS. A URL that is not HTTPS, includes credentials inline (like https://user:pass@…), or uses a non-standard port is rejected.
You can't save two sites with the same URL. The error reads "You already saved a site with this URL."
If saving a login returns an error saying browser logins aren't configured on this deployment, that's an environment or setup issue, not something you did wrong — contact your administrator or August support.
Editing a saved site so it points at a different domain clears that site's saved login and learned notes, because neither can safely carry over to a new host.
Learned notes
After the assistant browses a saved site, it records a navigation guide for that site — its search forms, quirks, and where results and documents live — so later runs start from that guide instead of rediscovering the site. That's what "has learned this site" on the row means.
Choose Reset learned notes from the row's overflow (…) menu when the site's layout changes and the assistant's saved notes are stale.
Using it in chat
Once a site is saved, ask the assistant in plain language to search or pull something from that site. It can also download documents from the site — either attaching them to the chat as durable August documents, or reading them once to answer your current question.
Troubleshooting
The assistant says the site isn't registered or saved. Add the site in Settings > Browser sites.
Sign-in fails on the site. Update the login from the site's row.
Results look wrong or the assistant seems lost on the site. Reset learned notes from the row's overflow menu.
You can't save the URL. Check that it's plain HTTPS and that you haven't already saved a site with the same URL.
