August Mobile App
The August mobile app puts Assistant on your iPhone. Ask questions with sourced answers, attach or upload files, browse your folders, and pick up any chat you started on the web. Everything syncs with your August account, so a conversation you start on your phone is waiting on your laptop.
Getting the App
Download August: Legal AI Workspace from the App Store. The app is free; access comes with your firm's August subscription.
Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
Device | iPhone running iOS 17 or later |
Account | An existing August account. Billing and account management stay on the web app. |
Connection | Active internet connection. Chats, files, and folders load from August each time and aren't available offline. |
Signing In
Sign in with the same account and sign-in method you use at app.august.law. You stay signed in when you close and reopen the app.
Open the August app.
Sign in with your August account.
Complete any verification step your account requires. August opens to Home in your Personal workspace.
To sign out, open Settings from the bottom of the sidebar and tap Sign Out.
Finding Your Way Around
Swipe right from anywhere on the screen, or tap the menu button, to open the sidebar. It lists your recent chats and these destinations:
Area | What it does |
|---|---|
Home | Start a new chat. Tap the August logo at the top of the sidebar to return here. The project menu at the top of Home switches between Personal and your projects. |
Chats | Your full chat history, with Search chats and Filters (Shared with me, Type, and Mode). |
Folders | Browse, upload, rename, and delete files and folders. |
Chat | The button at the bottom left of the sidebar starts a new chat. |
Settings | Your account, appearance, default mode, Personalization, help, and sign out. |
Long-press a chat in the sidebar or in Chats to Rename or Delete it. Deleting a chat removes it for everyone with access.
Chats and Projects
Each chat belongs to the project selected in the menu at the top of Home, the same way it does on the web. Switching projects changes the chats and folders you see; your unsent draft on Home stays.
Chats shared with you as view-only open read-only, so you can't send messages in them. Some older chats created before August's current Assistant can't be opened on mobile; tap Open on web to view them in your browser. Projects are created and managed on the web; see Manage Your Sidebar Projects.
Core Capabilities
Ask Assistant
Type in the Ask August anything. box and tap send. New chats use your default mode, set in Settings under Chat > Default mode (Auto or Manual). Once a message reaches five lines, an expand button appears at the top right of the box and opens a full-screen editor.
While August responds, tap Stop to end the response. If August asks you a question or needs approval to use a tool, the prompt appears in place of the message box; answer it to let August continue. For guidance on which mode to use, see Choosing the Right Mode.
Attach and Upload Files
Tap the plus button next to the message box to add files to your message:
Files / Folders attaches files or whole folders already in August. Select them, then tap Attach.
Upload opens your phone's file picker so you can add new files. Uploads attach to the message automatically once they finish processing, and the send button stays disabled until then.
Uploads follow the same file types and size limits as the web app; see Supported File Formats. To upload a ZIP archive, upload it into a folder from Folders rather than attaching it to a message.
Password-protected files can't be uploaded from the mobile app. Upload an unprotected copy, or upload the file on the web.
Check Sources and Citations
Answers include numbered citations. Tap a citation to preview the cited excerpt, then tap Open to view the full document. Citations to a tabular review open on the web. See How August Handles Sources and Citations.
Copy, Edit, and Regenerate
Below each answer, use the buttons to copy the response or regenerate it. Long-press one of your own messages to Copy or Edit it. Edit puts the message back in the message box; change it and tap Save edit to get a new answer.
Work with Folders
Open Folders from the sidebar to browse the files in your current project. Tap a file to open a PDF view of it.
Search with Search files and folders, and sort by Name, Updated, File Type, or Size.
Use the Folder options menu (the ellipsis button) to Upload files into the folder, create a New folder, or Select several items to delete.
Long-press a file or folder to Rename or Delete it. Deleting a folder removes everything inside it for everyone with access.
Notifications
Tap the bell at the top of Home to see your notifications. A dot on the bell means you have unread activity or an upload in progress.
Sharing: projects, chats, and files shared with you. Tap one to open it.
Agents: completed and failed agent runs. These open on the web.
Uploads: progress for files you uploaded in this session, with retry and cancel.
Tap Read all to mark a tab's notifications as read. Notifications appear in the app only; August doesn't send push notifications to your phone. For more on sharing, see Collaboration and Notifications.
