Lawmatics Integration

Connect Lawmatics so Assistant can look up your firm's matters, contacts, tasks, time entries, invoices, and files, and write tasks, notes, and time entries back to Lawmatics with your approval. August reads Lawmatics live each time you ask, so answers reflect what's in Lawmatics right now; nothing is copied or synced in the background.

What This Integration Does

Once Lawmatics is connected and turned on for a chat, Assistant can:

• Search and look up records: Find matters, contacts, and prospects by name, email, or phone number, and open a matter's full details, including stage, practice area, tags, and custom fields.

• Run firm-wide reports: List matters, tasks, time entries, or invoices across the firm, filtered and sorted, for example "all open tasks assigned to Priya" or "invoices overdue this month."

• Read matter activity: Read a matter's tasks, notes, activities, and files.

• Import files: Bring a matter's files into August for analysis and drafting.

• Write back with approval: Create or update tasks, add notes, log time entries, update a matter's contact fields, tags, and custom fields, and save an August document to a matter's files. Every write pauses for your approval before anything changes in Lawmatics.

Setup Requirements

You need your own Lawmatics login. The connection acts as you, so August sees only the records your Lawmatics account can see. No administrator consent is required. If you don't see Lawmatics as an option, ask your firm admin whether it's enabled for your account.

How to Connect Lawmatics

August never receives your Lawmatics password.

1. Open the account menu (your name in the sidebar) and select My profile.

2. Select the Integrations tab and click Connect next to Lawmatics.

3. Sign in to Lawmatics and approve access.

You return to August with your account listed under Lawmatics. You can also connect from the Integrations menu in the chat composer, which then shows a switch to turn Lawmatics on or off for that chat.

Importing Files from Lawmatics

Import from a project when you want a matter's files in August without starting a chat.

1. On a project's folders page, choose Import > Lawmatics.

2. Search for a matter, or click Browse your matters.

3. Select the files you want and import them into an August folder.

Files larger than 50 MB can't be imported. Imported files are copies; import again to pick up a newer version.

Common Use Cases

Using Lawmatics Data in Assistant Queries

With Lawmatics turned on in a chat, ask Assistant questions that reference your practice data:

• "Summarize the status and open tasks on the Smith matter."

• "Which matters moved into the Retained stage this quarter?"

• "How many billable hours did we log on Acme Corp last month?"

• "Draft an engagement letter using the contact details on the Acme Corp matter."

Updating Lawmatics from a Chat

Ask Assistant to log the work you just did, for example "Add a note to the Smith matter summarizing this call and log 0.5 hours." Assistant prepares the change and waits for you to approve it.

Troubleshooting

Security Notes

The Lawmatics integration follows August's security standards:

• Authentication: You sign in on Lawmatics' own page, so August never receives or stores your Lawmatics password.

• Encryption: All data transferred between Lawmatics and August is encrypted in transit and at rest.

• Data isolation: Your firm's Lawmatics data remains isolated within your August tenant.
