Lawmatics Integration

Lawmatics is a legal practice management and CRM platform. The Lawmatics integration syncs client data, matter information, and intake records bi-directionally with August, making it easy to bring practice context into your AI workflows.

What This Integration Does

Once connected, Lawmatics data flows into August so you can work with your practice context without manual data entry:

  • Client data sync: Client contact details and background information become available in August.

  • Matter management: Matter names, types, and status sync automatically, giving you context when reviewing documents or drafting.

  • Intake automation: Intake form submissions flow into August, so you can analyze new client information immediately.

Setup Requirements

Before connecting Lawmatics, confirm you have:

  • Active Lawmatics subscription: You need a current Lawmatics account with access to your firm's data.

  • No admin consent required: Unlike Microsoft integrations, Lawmatics connections can be set up by individual users without tenant-level approval.

How to Connect Lawmatics

The connection process uses either an API key or OAuth authentication, depending on your Lawmatics configuration.

Open Integrations

Navigate to Integrations from the left navigation menu and select Lawmatics from the list of available integrations.

Choose Authentication Method

Select either API Key or OAuth based on your Lawmatics account setup. Both methods are secure and encrypted.

Enter Credentials

If using an API key, copy it from your Lawmatics settings and paste it into August. If using OAuth, complete the secure login flow from Lawmatics. August never stores your password.

Confirm Connection

Once authenticated, August verifies the connection and begins syncing client and matter data automatically.

Common Use Cases

Syncing Client and Matter Data

After connection, client records and matter details appear in August context. When drafting or analyzing documents, you can reference client background and matter type without looking up information separately in Lawmatics.

Intake Form Integration

New intake submissions sync into August automatically. Use Assistant to analyze intake responses, identify potential issues, or draft initial client communications based on form data.

Using Lawmatics Data in Assistant Queries

With Lawmatics connected, you can ask Assistant questions that reference your practice data:

  • "Summarize the client background for the Smith matter."

  • "What intake forms were submitted this week?"

  • "Draft an engagement letter based on the client profile for Acme Corp."

Troubleshooting

My API key isn't being accepted

Verify that the API key was copied completely from Lawmatics without extra spaces or missing characters. Keys should be pasted exactly as provided. If the key was recently regenerated in Lawmatics, make sure you're using the new key and not an older version.

Data isn't syncing between Lawmatics and August

Check that the connection status shows "Connected" in the Integrations panel. If the connection is active but data is missing, verify that the clients or matters in question exist in Lawmatics with the expected data. New records may take a few minutes to appear after creation in Lawmatics.

I need to reconnect or update my credentials

Disconnect the integration from the Integrations panel, then reconnect using your current credentials. This is useful if your Lawmatics API key was rotated or if your OAuth session expired.

Security Notes

The Lawmatics integration follows August's security standards:

  • Authentication: Uses API Key or OAuth — your Lawmatics password is never stored by August.

  • Encryption: All data transferred between Lawmatics and August is encrypted in transit and at rest.

  • Data isolation: Your firm's Lawmatics data remains isolated within your August tenant.
