iManage Integration

iManage integration connects your firm's document management system to August. Search workspaces and documents, pull files into a project, and save documents back to iManage from a chat.

What This Integration Does

  • Search workspaces and documents: Ask Assistant to find documents by author, document type, class, custom fields, or date, or to search a specific workspace.

  • Browse folders: Look through a workspace's folder structure, including recent workspaces, without leaving August.

  • Import documents: Bring documents from iManage into an August project for analysis, review, and drafting.

  • Save documents to iManage: Write an August document into an iManage folder. This always pauses for your approval first — see Tool Approval in Assistant Chat.

Setup Requirements

iManage uses OAuth 2.0 — you connect with your own iManage login, and the integration inherits your existing library and workspace permissions.

August is an approved iManage Universal App, so your firm's iManage administrator can find and enable it directly in iManage Control Center. If you don't see iManage as an option yet, point your admin to Register August in Your iManage Cloud Environment.

How to Connect iManage

Choose iManage

Select iManage from the composer's Integrations menu or a project's Import menu.

Sign in to iManage

Your firm's iManage login page opens. Sign in and approve the permissions requested. August never sees or stores your iManage password.

Return to August

You're redirected back into August with iManage connected.

iManage keeps only one active connection per account at a time. Signing in again elsewhere breaks the older session — if you see "iManage authentication failed," reconnect from the Integrations menu.

Importing Documents from iManage

Open Import > iManage from a project's folders page or the composer's Integrations menu.

  1. Search for a workspace by client or matter name, or click Browse your workspaces to see your recent workspaces.

  2. Select a workspace or folder to open its contents, and drill into subfolders as needed.

  3. Check the documents you want. File types August can't process appear greyed out and marked unsupported.

  4. At the top level, click Next to choose a destination folder in August. Inside a folder, click Import Selected to import directly.

Imported files download one at a time and go through August's standard upload pipeline, so they appear in your project and become available for analysis as soon as processing finishes.

Searching iManage from a Chat

Ask Assistant directly — for example, "find the NDA for the Grantson matter in iManage" or "who last edited the Q3 compliance memo." August searches by author, operator, document class or subclass, document type, edit or create date, and custom fields, and returns matching documents in the chat.

Security and Privacy

  • No passwords stored: August never receives or stores your iManage password. Authentication tokens are encrypted and managed securely.

  • Your own permissions: The connection acts as you — it can only see what your iManage account can see.

  • Zero data retention for training: Your documents aren't used to train AI models. See Security and Privacy Overview for details.

Troubleshooting

I don't see iManage as an integration option

Your firm's iManage administrator has to add and enable August in iManage Control Center first, and your account has to fall inside the access list they set. Ask them to follow Register August in Your iManage Cloud Environment.

iManage authentication failed

iManage keeps only one active session per account. Reconnect from the Integrations menu — this replaces any older, now-broken session.
