Workflows

Creating Workflows from Assistant

You can create reusable workflows directly from an Assistant conversation. When you describe a task you want to automate, August proposes a workflow draft card with steps you can review and customize before saving.

How Workflow Creation Works

Creating a workflow from Assistant follows a proposal-and-save flow:

1

Start from Create New

Select Create New → Workflow from any workflow entry point. This opens a prefilled Genius Mode conversation ready to draft your workflow.

2

Describe your task

Tell August what you want the workflow to do. The assistant proposes a workflow draft with suggested steps, prompts, and configuration based on your description.

3

Review& edit the draft card

The draft card shows the proposed workflow structure. Edit names, adjust steps, refine prompts, and modify any configuration before saving.

4

Press Save to create

Press Save on the draft card to create the workflow. The workflow is only created or updated after you press Save—you control when the workflow persists.

The assistant can propose and edit workflow drafts, but it cannot save workflows on your behalf. You must press Save to persist the workflow.

Starting from Create New

Any Create New → Workflow entry point opens a Genius Mode conversation with a prefilled prompt asking you to describe the task. This ensures the assistant starts in the right mode for building workflows and has the context it needs.

You can also ask Assistant to create a workflow mid-conversation by describing a repeatable task. If the task is suited for a workflow, the assistant will switch to Genius Mode and propose a draft card.

Editing Before You Save

The draft card is fully editable before you save:

  • Workflow name: Give your workflow a clear, descriptive name.

  • Steps: Add, remove, or reorder steps as needed.

  • Prompts: Refine the instructions foreach workflow step.

  • Configuration: Adjust outputs, delivery settings, and any step-specific options.

Continue the conversation with the assistant if you want help refining the draft. Ask follow-up questions, request changes, and iterate until the workflow matches what you need. When you're ready, press Save on the card.

What Happens After You Save

When you press Save on a workflow draft card:

  • The workflow is created in your workspace and available to run.

  • You're taken to the workflow detail page where you can view run history, add triggers, and manage permissions.

  • Team members with access can run the workflow on demand or via scheduled triggers.

For ongoing workflow management—including upload triggers, scheduled runs, and permissions—see Workflows Overview.

When to Use Chat-Based Creation

Create workflows from Assistant when:

  • You're describing a repeatable task and want August to suggest the structure.

  • You prefer to draft and iterate in conversation before committing to a saved workflow.

  • You want help translating a manual process into an automated workflow.

For workflows you already understand well, you can also build directly from the Workflows panel. Both approaches create the same reusable workflow objects.
